I think it’s really important to recognize that what we put on our body is just as important as what we put into our body. Most of the products we use on our skin are actually absorbed into the body, which is why we should be aware of the products we are using everyday. I recently switched all of my beauty products to all natural, most being plant-based and organic. I have seen amazing results and feel so much better about using all-natural products. I used to think you had to drop hundreds of dollars just to keep up an all-natural beauty routine, but I have learned that this is definitely not the case! I use these products sparingly and a little bit really goes a long way.
Makeup
I’m sort of obsessed with everything from Physician’s Formula. For a base, I love using the Organic Wear Natural Tinted Moisturizer. This is really easy to apply and gently covers any redness on the skin. Next I use an all-natural drug store brand called Alverde, which is amazing and really reliable. I use their Mineral Make-Up as a foundation or to cover up redder spots. I really do love all of their products though and everything is super affordable! For a bronzer, I love the Glow Boosting BB Bronzer and for mascara, I swear by the Origin Fakeout Mascara, also by Physicians Formula. I love the Bamboo makeup brushes from Eco Tools, which I wash with this every two weeks or so. It is the softest brush and I’ve been using them for years!
For a beautiful lip moisturizer and tint, I’m sort of obsessed with Kunye Lip Moisturizer, I don’t go anywhere without it these days! It is the softest lip balm in the world and will keep your lips nourished and soft all day long, unlike other lip balms that you have to reapply every hour! One more thing that I love for summer is my coconut oil lip chap for sun protection. My mum bought me this one in Hawaii and I just love it! If you can’t make it over to Hawaii, then I definitely suggest heading down to your local farmers market. Here in Vancouver, you will be surprised at how many all-natural, locally made beauty lines are popping up! I have spotted many awesome lip chaps and body butters, so I definitely recommend giving that a try!
Skin
For skin products, I love to stick to creams that contain natural oils like coconut oil, avocado oil and shea butter. My favourite face cream is actually a German brand, so for all of my German readers, I highly suggest getting your hands on this. I love the NeoBio Balance Day cream, which is made of a base of organic apricot oil and hibiscus. It is perfect for my sensitive skin and a little bit really goes a long way! It smells really nice and I use it for day and night time after I wash my face. For face wash and exfoliants, I love Lush products like the Parsley Porridge for a daily use, or Dark Angels for a little exfoliant. They both work really well on my sensitive skin and really get my face really glowing! If you are looking for a gentler face wash that really soothes the skin and takes makeup off quite well, I love the Brighten Cream Cleanser from the Kunye line. It’s an investment but you only need a little bit and it is made with amazing ingredients and is really lovely!
For my body, I absolutely love the The Replenish Body Butter from Kunye, which is a Vancouver-based company. It is basically a blend of non GMO soy, mango and shea butters with coconut oil. I use a pea size on my body right after I hop out of the shower or bath, while my body is still damp, to hold in the moisture. Your skin feels incredibly smooth and moisturized for hours after and smells lovely.
For face masks, I have been using Lush BB Seaweed for years and I really love it! I keep mine in the fridge so it lasts longer and is really fresh when I apply it. I love to use this mask about once a week as a special little spa day for my skin. It will leave your skin feeling ultra soft and replenished. I also adore the Kunye Refine Mask which is a blend of papaya extract and marshmallow root (the root that gives marshmallows the marshmallow flavour!!). This mask is so awesome because you purchase it as a dry powder and mix it with whatever you like. This way it stays really fresh and you can pre-mix however much you like. I mix mine with water and use about 1 tsp of clay with 1 tsp water for my mask. I use this mask about once a week, which leaves my skin feeling firm and replenished.
I hands-down recommend this deodorant by Lafes, 100%. I used to use chemical and aluminum-filled deodorants that would never stop me from sweating and would cause irritated and infected pores under my armpits. I am so shocked, amazed and happy with how amazing this deodorant works. You can buy it at Whole Foods and it is basically the same price as a drugstore bought deodorant, if not cheaper! I use the spray kind with the lavender scent which is lovely and it usually lasts about 8-10 hours while I’m at work in the summer until I need to reapply a little. I now sweat way less and always smell great!
Shower
The Buff Sugar Scrub from the Kunye line is my favourite scrub from their line. It isn’t messy in the shower and makes your skin feel absolutely divine! I love using the body butter afterwards…they make a great combo.
For shampoo, I love the Live Clean line. Especially this one. Although they are quite pricey, I also love Aveda products for my hair. I really love the Shampure conditioner. I don’t think it’s necessary to go and spend a whack of money on shampoo and conditioner, but since I only wash my hair about once a week, I treat myself to a nice bottle that will last at least 3-6 months.
For everything
Coconut oil is honestly one of the best things to have in your bathroom! I use coconut oil as a natural hair mask, on scars and cuts, as a natural sunscreen, on really dry spots, as an intensive moisturizer, as after-sun cream and more!
Dr. Bronner’s is the most amazing soap ever to exist. This stuff is like magic, I swear haha! You can use it on everything and anything. I use this soap as a body wash, shampoo, to wash my yoga mat, to wash my bathing suits, etc. etc. It is made using all natural, organic oils like coconut and avocado oil and beautiful essential oils like peppermint oil or lavender oil. The best thing about it, is that you only need a tiny drop in a big cup of water and it lasts forever! My favourite is the Almond Castile Liquid Soap.
I love my homemade Mocha Coconut Body Scrub for a good, natural and affordable exfoliant.
For tampons, I now only use NatraCare Tampons and wipes, they are completely chemical free and are made of organic cotton (aka no nasties or pesticides)!
I love essential oils, like peppermint oil and lavender oil. I use lavender essential oil mixed with water as a spritz and perfume, which I am totally in love with. It is honestly so easy to make and also easy to find in Vancouver! I use a tiny dab of peppermint oil before I go to bed on my wrists to help me sleep or soothe a headache.
Opinions of all products are, as always, my own.
