It’s official, we are fully venturing into the year 2016! This year has been absolutely incredible. From living in Berlin, to travelling to Amsterdam, Spain & the Seychelles to making new friends, starting school at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, becoming a yogi, and to becoming fully vegan, I have so much to look back on and appreciate! Here are a few things that I have really stuck with me that I want to share with you all. I hope to take these lessons and reflections with me into the new year. Starting a new year is a really exciting thing; positive changes and miracles are about to take place my friends!!

1. Getting rid of negativity will change everything.

Seriously, do it now. Don’t allow for cheating or lying and definitely avoid those who don’t appreciate your love or time. Putting effort into a relationship that doesn’t give back can be exhausting. Re-analyze how that person or situation may benefit you; if it only gives off negativity, get rid of it, and if you can’t get rid of it, try and find a way to change it. Negativity can come from just about anything (work, relationships, lifestyle choices, etc.) and can have a heavier effect on you than you think.

2.  Stay positive.

“It’s easier said than done” is probably what you’re thinking right now, but I really do believe that if you practice positivity and gratitude, it gets easier every day. Bringing light and love to a situation will make everything around you a little bit better. If something doesn’t turn out the way you hoped, acknowledge it, accept it and move on.

3. Less is more.

I have learned this in all aspects of my life. Fewer good friends are better than a whole bunch of people who don’t really care. Keeping your room clean will only make it easier to find your keys. Making my meals simple has taught me to appreciate the natural taste of a food. Keeping my life and possessions minimal is teaching me something very valuable: gratitude.

Except for love, you can never give too much love. Which leads me to my next point…

4. Love unconditionally.

Keep the love game strong. This is a tricky one, especially if you feel like you’ve got none to give. But I promise you that if you try, good karma will come back around and give you a great big hug in return. It is equally important to love yourself unconditionally than it is to love others unconditionally. Practice self-love everyday.

5. Start a new hobby.

Getting out of your comfort zone and exploring something that is both challenging and enjoyable will make your life 100% better, no questions asked. I chose to fall into my beautiful backyard of British Columbia, Canada, where the forests are lush and mountains are peaked with snow. I have found a new hobby that has allowed me to appreciate nature, make new friends and accept challenging tasks (pretty neat if you ask me).

6. Cuddling is so important.

A partner, a pet, a blanket. Honestly, just do it! Statistics show that giving someone a 30 second hug (or longer) will actually improve your mood. (Had to throw this one in here)
