This episode is all about implementing ‘Food as our medicine’, as two Acne Nutritionists (Sisley) and myself Hayley Barnes, talk everything nutrition and treating acne internally. Sisley and myself both have had our own personal struggles with acne, which makes this episode even more special.
I know a lot of Skin Therapists are concerned about treating the root cause of acne internally with nutrition and whether it is within their scope of practice and YES IT IS!!!!!!
Eating cooked and cooled rice, more fresh fruits and vegetables and going to bed earlier….. never hurt anyone…. no one is asking you to prescribe supplements. This is what a trained Naturopath is trained to do…..but what YOU can do is understand how acne is a sign/symptom of a bigger health challenge. You have the power to not only identify, explain and treat the root cause, using Food as Medicine but really advocate for your clients in regard to them trusting their bodies to heal…..because what the mind believes, the body achieves….. the power of an acne clients conscious and subconscious mind is super powerful. Treatments such as food as medicine, the fine art of ‘rest’ and mindset are very under rated when treating acne.
In a day and age where over supplementing and supplements like (zinc, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D & Biotin) in excess can actually CAUSE acne. Be the therapist who support their acne client, to go back to basics and achieve the MOST EFFECTIVE LONG TERM results in doing so…… key nutritional recommendations for clear skin, specific to the cause of your client acne is absolutely life changing for acne clients, because what you eat, becomes your cellular makeup and your cells are YOU!!
