Nuts for Coconuts – What’s The Big Deal?

Coconuts have recently skyrocketed in popularity, and have been known as the modern, “multi-functional” superfood. So, what’s the deal with this nut? Is it really all it’s cracked up to be? I broke down the basics for you guys to get a better idea of the awesome health benefits of this little guy.

Coconut Water: Coconut water is packed with electrolytes, therefore making this drink the perfect hydrater for when you are lacking energy, feeling run-down, suffering from sickness such as motion sickness, flu and cold- like symptoms or before and after intense exercise. Coconut water is an excellent source of potassium, which is essential for the maintenance of muscle function, nerve impulse function and cardiac (heart) function.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is incredibly versatile. Coconut oil is actually extremely popular for beauty and outer-body health functions. Since coconut oil is hydrating and healing when applied to skin, it works wonders as a face and body moisturizer, make-up remover, conditioner and scar-healer. Coconut oil has been used for killing harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi. Since only a very little amount of coconut oil is needed to go a long way, it is a great replacement if you’re looking to save some money in the long run.

When ingested in moderation, coconut oil also has amazing health benefits. It is packed with healthy saturated fats and it works great as a replacement for other oils or butters, in cooking or baking. When consumed, coconut oil has been known to increase energy levels and aid in overall bodily functions, repair and maintenance.

When purchasing coconut oil, it is best to look for the organic, raw and cold-pressed kind for the most beneficial effect. You can find coconut oil in most organic and health-food stores, or online.

Coconut Meat: The coconut meat is the white, “fleshy” part of the coconut. Depending on the coconut, the meat can be soft, crunchy, fibrous, and sweet or mild in taste. The meat of a coconut is an extremely effective and a healthy source of “fuel” for the body; it is also packed with Vitamin A and E, which are important for immune functions and skin health. Coconut meat can be enjoyed raw, cooked or even preserved.

Coconut can come in many forms: coconut milk, coconut water, coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut sugar, coconut butter, dessicated coconut, etc. All forms of coconut have amazing benefits for your health. You can put coconut in desserts, on top of muesli, throw it into curry dishes, use in dressings or mix in with your smoothies. The best way to get the most out of a coconut is to buy an organic Young Thai Coconut for yourself, crack it open and enjoy the delicious juice and flesh inside!
