My DIY Beauty Hacks

the pure life

SHARE

Everyone loves a good DIY, and I know I’m not the only one who’s spent countless hours scrolling through Pinterest, pinning every DIY face mask I see. I also love a good hack – save time, save money, know what’s going in/on your body!

Your skin absorbs a very large percentage of the product you put on it, so I always recommend natural, chemical and toxin-free products. Today I want to share with you my favourite food beauty hacks, products that double as food and beauty care. It’s a win-win situation.

DIY Toner

Not only is apple cider vinegar an exceptional toner, but it also doubles as a digestive booster, a natural antibacterial food, an immune booster and inflammation-reducer. ACV is your best friend. I love pouring a tsp onto a cloth and dabbing my face with the vinegar like you might a toner. You can either leave this on overnight or wash it off and apply a gentle natural cleanser afterwards. I love using apple cider vinegar after a good workout, especially because it naturally kills bacteria on the skin and cleanses your pores. Have your cake and eat it, too!

DIY Lavender Spritz

This homemade lavender spritz is my life. I spritz it every morning and every evening before bed. Lavender is known to help calm, so it’s great to spray on your pillow before bed, too! It smells lovely and is also naturally anti-bacterial, so doubles as a face spritz. Lavender has also known to be anti-depressive, so I make sure I use it a few times a day during the dreary winter months.

To make it yourself, add 10-15 drops of pure 100% natural Lavender essential oil to a spritz bottle (I use a 300ml bottle) and shake up. Spritz whenever and wherever!

DIY Hair Mask

Coconut oil for everything – am I right? Coconut oil is a great DIY hair mask – massage it into the ends of your locks after you rinse your hair, leave in for 1-4 hours or overnight (depending on your hair) and shampoo out afterwards. I like to wash my hair once a week, and do this the night before I shampoo it – leaves my hair silky smooth.

The coconut oil might stain your pillow, so I recommend using a back-up pillow case.

DIY Lip Scrub

Combine cane or coconut sugar in a small jar with just enough oil (olive oil, coconut oil or avocado oil) to combine well. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, like peppermint or rose. 1 tsp of Vanilla extract also works nicely. Scrub on your lips 1-2 times per week and rinse off to avoid chapped lips and to rehydrate to plump and soften. Gorgeous!

DIY Coffee Scrub

Got leftover coffee grinds? Combine them with sugar, some raw cacao, a tbsp. of orange peel, a few drops of orange essential oil and coconut oil to make a luscious body scrub. This is one of my original beauty recipes, and I love it and it makes your skin feel ultra smooth.

Loved that post Sisley! I will definetly try a few of your beauty recipes out. How long does the coffee scrub last and how do you store it? Or do you always only prepare the amount you will need?

    • I’m so glad you enjoyed the post! I only make as much as I need for a week or so. You can store it in the fridge over long periods of time or just in your bathroom for short periods of time – it shouldn’t go bad unless water and contaminants get into it! ENJOY xx
